Intervention Overview

Practice speech intelligibility and volume by having your patient give commands to your facility dog. The further away the patient is positioned, the louder the command needs to be!

Patient Instructions

  • Give patient list of commands they can give to facility dog

  • Speak loudly and clearly so dog follows commands

  • Follow commands from the patient

  • Interaction level: active

Scaling

Make it easier:

  • Position dog closer to patient

Make it harder:

  • Position dog further away from patient (requires louder volume)

  • Give patient sequence of cues to remember (memory)
