Challenge your patients gait with a little Wagon Pull! Your facility dog will be pulled around the hallway or gym in their regal wagon, while your patient works on walking in different directions with resistance.
Patient Instructions
Patient can either hold onto handle of wagon, or have the patient wear a vest/harness and attach the wagon to the vest
Patient walks while pulling the wagon
Dog’s Role
Facility dog lays in the wagon and enjoys the ride!
Interaction level: passive
Scaling
Make it easier:
Allow patient to use their assistive device when walking (with wagon attached via vest)
Make it harder:
Change direction of walking: wagon attached to front of patient while walking backwards, wagon attached to back of patient while walking forwards
Patient pulls wagon with hand for unilateral imbalance
Attach wagon to vest using a flexible theraband for more dynamic, fluctuating resistance
