Intervention Overview

Your facility dog deserves a spa day! Your patient can practice their fine motor control by painting the nails of the facility dog using pet-safe nail polish. If your patient likes to paint their own nails, this is a fun alternative ADL training activity.

Patient Instructions

  • Patient set up in front of facility dog, with access to paws

  • Use pet-safe nail polish and paint facility dog’s nails

Dog’s Role

  • Position facility dog on therapy mat or table in front of patient

  • Interaction level: passive

Scaling

Make it easier:

  • Patient in sitting position

  • Add built-up handle to nail polish applicator

Make it harder:

  • Patient in standing position
